Professional athletes

Professional athletes make a short living from sport compared to people who do most other jobs. Risk management and insurance should be adapted to this. Depending on the professional contract, the risk of temporary incapacity following injury and/or illness must be covered. Otherwise, the professional athlete could incur significant financial losses, as the payment of contractual wages by the employer is usually limited for a set period of time (loss of income). In a catastrophic case, an injury or illness could lead to the premature end of the athlete’s career. Thus, the insurance should provide compensation for the complete loss of income and also help to reorganise the athlete’s professional future. Some sports stars also have sponsorship contracts. In the event of forced career termination, they may also lose the income from these contracts and the design of the insurance should be adapted to this.

Sports organisations and clubs
